Technology

During the war, humanity harnessed technology as a crucial tool to level the playing field, thwarting the potential dominance of supernatural forces. In times of peace, technology has become readily accessible to all, yet supernatural entities face unique challenges in its utilization due to their reliance on magic and other supernatural abilities. While they can navigate basic functions such as social media and simple games, their interaction with devices occasionally results in glitches, and they find themselves needing to replace devices far quicker than humans.

Advanced technology can only be utilized by humans and, to a minor extent, by Frankenmonster due to the issues that come with magic and supernatural abilities disrupting technology. This makes it so supernatural beings need to rely on humans for most of their technological needs, such as repair services, IT services, computer science services, and less savory technological services (i.e., hacking and dark web).

Along with general technology issues, there are certain things supernatural beings cannot do, such as utilize technological weapons created by humans during a time of conflict or for government employees' use. Any weapon using electrical components or technology cannot be used by nonhumans, thus most weapons like that have been restricted from civilian use.

Weapon use Penalty

Restricted | Unregistered

If a civilian is caught using a restricted weapon, they are fined, and the weapon is removed.

Murder with said Weapon

If a civilian is caught using a restricted weapon to kill or fatally harm a supernatural being, they will be charged according to the investigation (murder, manslaughter, etc.).

Using Weapon against Supernatural

If a civilian is caught using a restricted weapon against a supernatural being, they are fined, the weapon is removed, and they receive a charge depending on the situation and use (assault, attempted murder/manslaughter, etc.).

Human Caught with Restricted

If a human is caught using a restricted weapon during any crime, an extra charge for the weapon is added to the charge of the crime they were committing.

Civilian-accessible Weapons | Technology

Tasers: Standard taser, nothing special about it.

Stun gun/melee weapon: Standard stun gun/melee weapon. Keep it semi-realistic, but you do have the freedom to create the type of stun weapon you’d like to use.

Modified Pistol: This looks similar to a standard pistol but shoots specialized ammunition and contains electrical components to make it work.

Ammunition:

The Silver Bullet: These bullets can be used to incapacitate supernaturals with a weakness to silver.

The Iron Bullet: This bullet looks like a standard bullet made of iron but is covered in pockets of salt.

The expanding ooze: This bead-like rubber bullet is filled with an ooze that expands upon impact, causing whatever it hits to expand.

The poisonous bullet: These bead-like rubber bullets are filled with a poison of choice (i.e., Bane, Dragon’s bane, pesticide, etc.) and explode upon impact.

All standard weapons that are legally obtained in the state of Massachusetts are obtainable to your character using standard methods.

Cognitohazard Goggles: These goggles have technology that protects the user from the effects of visual magic, such as the fear aura from the undead. They come as a pair of glasses in various looks and register when a supernatural being creates a magical visual effect with AI assistance. They only work when being worn and are as fragile as a standard pair of glasses.

The Detector: When the treaty was signed, humans were given the option to use a detection meter, now available on smartphones. It gives them the ability to detect when magic is being used within 10 feet of them. It does not come included on every phone and must be downloaded. If the phone is off or not logged into the app, it won’t detect.

Government Restricted Weapons | Technology

Modified advanced gun models: These are bigger and stronger gun models aside from the pistol (i.e., shotgun, rifle, etc.) that use specialized ammunition and contain electrical components to make them work.

The Nullification Dart: These darts, when shot into a supernatural, release a nullifying liquid that hinders their abilities to a standstill, rendering them useless. The effect lasts no more than a day or two, depending on the being, and is used when police are in pursuit or must protect themselves against an assailant.

Genetic Detector: This scanner was created to detect the genetic makeup of a supernatural being and informs the user of its species. This is primarily meant for investigating crimes relating to specific races and can only be used on suspects that have evidence against them. Just like DNA testing, they must obtain either permission from the suspect or a court order to use this scanner.

Cognitohazard Gear: Like its civilian-approved goggles, this gear mirrors SWAT gear that projects emergency services. The gear has technology that protects the user from minor magical effects and visual magic, such as the fear aura from undead. Just like a bulletproof vest, it’s not exact and does not protect from stronger magic or abilities.

Like most things, the seedy underbelly of Roanoke has made restricted weapons more accessible to the everyday human, thus creating a need for restrictions.

We happily accept additions to the weapons and gear on this list. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please reach out to a member of staff
