Rules & Etiquette 

General Rules:

  1. Respect: Treat all members with respect. Harassment, discrimination, or bullying of any kind will not be tolerated.

  2. Age Requirement: This is an 18+ sim, both player and character must be 18+ to join Return of Roanoke.

  3. Character Limit: While we want everyone to enjoy their time, players should stick to 3 or fewer characters per player.

  4. Original Characters: This is a sim driven by original characters, so please avoid using characters created by others without permission. 

Roleplay Guidelines:

  1. Consent-Based RP: Players should obtain permission from other players before involving their characters in significant storylines.

  2. No Godmodding: We prohibit overpowered or invincible characters. Characters should be balanced and able to face challenges and setbacks.

  3. No Metagaming: We prohibit using information gained OOC to further a character's storyline. All information, abilities, and knowledge must be gained through IC means.  

Communication Rules:

  1. In-Character vs. Out-of-Character: Use clearly labeled OOC (Out of Character) communication markers to distinguish between in-character and out-of-character discussions.

  2. OOC Disputes: We advise everyone to resolve out-of-character disputes privately and respectfully. Public arguments should be avoided. If unable, please contact staff to help.

Content and Theme Rules:

  1. Explicit Content: Return of Roanoke is an adult sim, meaning adult themes are welcome but please keep it out of public events or mass scenes.

  2. Cultural Sensitivity: We expect cultural sensitivity and the avoidance of stereotypes when introducing characters or themes from diverse backgrounds.

  3. Sim Theme: It’s expected that everyone follows the theme of the sim as we’ve cultivated a setting for everyone to have fun in. We don’t expect anyone to memorize the lore but willingly disregarding the lore for self interest is prohibited. 

Bans and Breaks:

  1. Leaving our sim: We understand that interest comes and goes, so we will never hold grudges against those that leave. If you’d like to put a character to rest upon departing, contact a member of staff and we’d be happy to help.

  2. Coming back: Players are welcome back after any period, there is no need to let a member of staff know you plan to come back unless you’d like to, or need a character reinstated.

Penalties for Rule Violations:

Warnings: Most rules outside of harassment, targeting, stalking, and sexual abuse will get a warning. After 3 warnings you will receive a steeper punishment.

 

Bans: After 3 warnings, you will receive a ban of a short period based on the offense, if the issue continues, you will receive a permanent ban. Harassment, targeting, stalking, and sexual abuse, receive no warnings and will be permantly banned. 

 

Appeals: To appeal a warning or ban, you can contact an admin and they will outline the appeal process to you.
