Lore

Leading towards the War

In the late 1400s and early 1500s, as the Spanish Inquisition relentlessly destroyed communities across Europe in their relentless pursuit of heresy, they unwittingly stumbled upon something for which they had no frame of reference: the supernatural realm. As they infiltrated communities with a high concentration of supernatural beings, these communities resisted vehemently, leading to a clash that eventually brought the two worlds into direct contact.

For years, rumors and speculation ran rampant among both human and supernatural communities until the undeniable truth emerged. The existence of both humankind and the supernatural realm was no longer a matter of conjecture; it had become an indisputable fact.

The War

Upon the moment when the two communities finally confronted each other, the focus shifted away from religious zeal and the pursuit of power, instead giving way to an overwhelming sense of fear. Conflict erupted across Europe like a tempest, unfortunately leaving no traceable records of precise locations and dates; such knowledge has either faded into obscurity or been carefully concealed by those old enough to remember but wise enough to maintain silence.

Integrated communities that yearned for peace found themselves facing an agonizing choice: either abandon Europe in search of refuge elsewhere or retreat into secrecy, shrouding their existence from the prying eyes of the outside world.

Roanoke Colony

One such colony was led by Sir Walter Raleigh, who recognized an opportunity in the conflict between the supernatural and humanity. He saw the bloodshed as a political strategy against the Spanish, Raleigh firmly believed that the supernatural forces were destined to prevail in the ongoing war. In hopes to gain their favor, he orchestrated a local integrated community in the Americas, providing them refuge from the war.

Just as the newly established community set foot on American soil, the war swiftly followed. Within just two years of their arrival, the war reached the shores of America and they were forced into secrecy, becoming the Lost Colony.

The Treaty

The war raged on as the generations passed, unfortunately it seemed like there was no end in sight until the 1980s. After centuries of conflict between the two communities, the world was tired of the bloodshed and tension. Talk of a treaty between humankind and supernatural communities went on for 15 years before one was finally drafted. In 1995, a historic moment arrived as the treaty was signed, setting in motion a 30-year plan for integration—a plan that held the potential to finally bring an end to centuries of strife and usher in an era of peace.

Current Day

5 years after the treaty was signed, the Roanoke colony which had been in hiding as a peaceful community of both humans and supernatural, became resurfaced in Massachusetts. The Roanoke colony became the Township of Roanoke, Massachusetts and it was here that one of first fully integrated communities started to develop after the war.

The year is now 2023, and the world has settled into integration. Humans and supernatural beings mix like peanut butter and jelly. While younger generations don't know a life without the treaty, older generations and ancient beings must learn to see past the conflict and find peace. As the years draw closer to the 30-year mark, Roanoke hopes to become a beacon for what it has always stood for: peace and unity. Despite the media showing a town sparkling with smiling faces, is everything as it seems?
