Draculas

Lifespan: Lives until they are killed.

A dracula is a legendary creature that survives by taking in the vital essence (generally in the form of blood) of the mortal… right? Ancient belief in draculas has often been congruent with medieval misunderstanding of the process of decomposition– bodies turn purple and cold after death, of course, and rumors and myths of dark spirits rising from their graves to walk in the night prevailed across continents and cultures.

The truth is far darker, and more tragic. All draculas carry an ancient curse, a curse of flesh and blood. In death, they are forced to seek their sustenance by drinking the blood of other creatures, as they possess none of their own. When fed, a Dracula will look pale and shaded, a being of darkness, but mostly normal in appearance. They can even use magic to glamor themselves to look youthful, or healthy. However, when unfed, a dracula reveals themselves a true horror– desiccated and emaciated with shriveled skin; the less blood a dracula carries, the more they resemble walking death, a skeletal corpse.

In the modern era, acquiring blood is no easy thing. Hypnosis, dominance, seduction, or coercion– there are any number of ways to secure food on a daily basis, but none of them are pleasant. To most, becoming a dracula is truly the worst fate one can imagine. The curse brings benefits of ancient power, but it forces one to forever turn their back on the day, becoming a disgraced creature of the night. To some, this is simply a new life, a punishment or purgatory. But to others, it is a path to something greater in this world, with all its dangers new and old.

Race Appearance:

Draculas throughout legends were described as beautiful– rumors and conjecture, meant to make them harder to track during the wars. In reality, a vampire looks no different than any regular human, aside from their pallor and the occasional desiccation they display when hungry. Any hair color, any eye color, any skin color, any weight or height. However, the only races that can be infected by the curse are ones that can become undead.

Basic Abilities

Blood Drinker

Blood is the central most point of power in a dracula. With total control over their own bodies' inner workings, they can shed blood whenever necessary, from any orifice. This will need to be replaced eventually, through the consumption of others' blood. They have fangs on their top and lower canines, and use that total control to distend their jaw when necessary, for fighting and feeding.

Darkvision

They are able to see perfectly in the dark.

No Reflection

Both an advantage and disadvantage, depending on the situation, draculas have no reflection in a mirrored surface.

Enhanced Strength | Speed

Capable of feats of great strength, the dracula has the propensity to lift trees up by the root, or flip a car with some force. They also move so fast that it often appears as a blur right before a person's eyes. Some races have keen enough vision to follow this, but it is very difficult.

Venom Bite

Draculas have venom that coats their teeth, and is injected into the prey, usually upon first bite. This usually relaxes the victim, making them more pliant. The venom, when left to sit inside a wound instead of being metabolized, can cause necrosis and sepsis of the skin and tissue.

Magical Aptitude

The blood itself is powerful and capable of many things. Being able to expunge it at will, a dracula can use their blood for a great many things– Ritual sacrifice, hemomancy, powerful sigils and warding, seeing and prophesying, or the binding of souls.

General Abilities

General Weaknesses

Invitation to Party

Draculas are creatures kept alive by magic, and thus much of their existence is governed by rules. For example, a dracula physically cannot enter a private residence without being invited inside. Once inside, the dracula will function normally, but can be forced to leave if the property owner demands it vocally.

Silver and Holy Water

Both of these substances can burn a dracula and cause excruciating pain.

Sunlight

Draculas are not completely disavowed from going out during the day. Typically the older one is, the more sunlight they can handle. But for the most part, as creatures of the night, the curse disallows them from being in the sun for too long. Their skin is typically too delicate.

Racial Tidbits

Occupations

Draculas obviously take jobs that don’t require being out during the day, but it’s also not unheard of for a drac to not need to work– if you’re old enough, you’ve probably acquired quite a fortune.

Difficult Diet

When low on blood, vampires look emaciated and sickly-- when flush with blood, they aren't preternaturally beautiful. Their physical appearance is directly linked to their diet, and how much they have had to drink recently.

Permission

Vampires can't enter certain spaces, are unable to get daytime jobs, and are considered untouchable to some. The life of a blood leech is a difficult one.

Race Limitations

Extra Abilities

Pick Five Abilities

Camouflage

Allows the being to blend in with their surroundings to a supernatural level. Not true invisibility but will fool even supernatural senses for a time.

The Call of Blood

The being has a connection to blood, allowing them to use it as a weapon, pulling it from their own veins to solidify into weapons or turning another’s blood against them.

Wall Crawling

Dracula's with this ability are able to crawl buildings or walls, but this ability is affected by the Dracula's health or feeding. If a Dracula is particular weak, they may find that they can't crawl very high.

Petrification

Vampire's that have this ability are able to freeze other's with their gaze, which is intended to be a short period either decided between player or by dice.

Projection

Dracula's with this ability can project a desire into reality, meaning they can project a temporary feeling on another, with consent from the player or a dice roll. They can also project temporary illusion that cannot interact with the physical object or hurt people.

Telekinises

Moving things with your mind. This only is up to about two to three hundred pounds and at max weight, limited to tossing across a room.

Telepathy

Project to range your thoughts into another person's mind and listen to their responses. This is largely a communication based ability and able to be prevented with shields.

Prophetea

Historically, those with Prophetea were considered an oracle. Those with Prophetea can use any method they wish to divine the future. These are the individuals who are most likely to receive visions, or warnings,  of present or future events.

NOTE: When doing readings for other players, CONSENT is paramount.

The ONE exception to this rule is when those with this ability receive Storyteller visions regarding another player.

- All players with the Prophetea ability will receive visions from the storytellers at random times.

- In the case of Sim-wide plots, those with Prophetea may, upon receiving Storyteller visions, submit tickets for additional information in the form of visions.

- All those with Prophetea may request visions for individuals they are doing readings for from storytellers.

- All those with Prophetea should discuss the potentials of their reading with their partner– ask permission, and get details the player is comfortable with sharing in a scene. If you are struggling, seek out a Storyteller.

Blood Inheritance

All blood has power and some vampires are able to tap more deeply into this power. After drinking from another, the vampire may gain access to a single base ability of the race that they drank from, this ability would be one use and can only be held onto until the Dracula rests.

Bloodbound Thrall

The Dracula is able to forge a bond between themselves and a being they have fed from multiple times, this allows the Dracula a limited control and manipulation over that being.
